Yes, we offer a 30-day free trial on Shopify so you can explore features before committing to a subscription. With this free trial, you are able to run a round-ups or add-on donations campaign in 49 states (excludes California) for 30 days for no monthly fee. We do, however, charge a 2.9% transaction fee for each donation made.
After 30 days, you can continue to run either of those campaigns (and expand your scope to include California customers) for $999/month. You can also choose to upgrade to a plan that includes percentage of purchase campaigns (and similarly expand to California customers) for $2,500/month.
California is unique – it has heightened compliance requirements for entities that fall under their definition of a charitable fundraising platform.
A charitable fundraising platform is a person, corporation, or other legal entity that provides a website, mobile device application, or other internet-based platform to Californians, and performs, permits, or enables solicitations through its platform. This includes:
The requirements include registering as a charitable fundraising platform, annually renewing registration, and filing fundraising reports. Due to these additional legal filings, we are unable to make campaigns run on the free trial available to California consumers.
We take legal compliance seriously and aim to facilitate this entire process for our customers that choose to offer donation options to California consumers.
With the Change Drop-in Donations Shopify app, you can launch a round-ups, add-on donation, or percentage of purchase campaign directly in your Shopify store.
A commercial co-venturer (CCV) is a business that partners with a charity to promote sales or events where part of the proceeds benefit the charity. They advertise that buying their goods or services supports the charity, and they must usually register and report this activity to authorities. Learn more about CCVs here.
Percentage of purchase campaigns are considered commercial co-venture campaigns because the donation is inextricably linked to the sale of the product. Therefore, this requires additional filings before launching.
Because of these additional legal filings and requirements, we are unable to offer this option in the free trial.
We have two plans depending on the type and scope of the donation campaign. Learn more here.
Change integrates with your Shopify store, allowing you to add a donation option for your customers.
You get to choose where you want to add the donation option: in the shopping cart, at checkout, or post-purchase.
