Mill Law Center is a mission-driven law firm that works exclusively with nonprofit organizations across the country. The firm supports clients throughout every stage of the nonprofit lifecycle including formation, governance, charitable solicitation compliance, and dissolution. As part of this work, Mill Law manages annual charitable registrations and renewals for organizations doing multi-state fundraising.
Committed to serving nonprofits, Mill Law has grown steadily since its founding five years ago. As the firm expanded its services, Mill Law set out to add charitable registrations and renewals to its offerings and needed a more efficient and accurate way to manage this work for the organizations they support.
Mill Law launched its charitable registration offering less than a year ago and quickly saw interest grow. The firm currently manages close to 100 filings annually, including two clients with more than 40 state renewals each. The team knew that manual workflows would not support long term growth.
Before using Change, Mill Law relied on spreadsheets to track deadlines, PDFs emailed back and forth with clients, and manual data entry for every state filing. Patrick had already seen at his previous firm how quickly this approach breaks down after managing more than 1,500 filings a year. So when Mill Law began expanding its renewal work, he knew they needed technology that could reduce human error, eliminate repetitive tasks, and create real operational capacity. Patrick had one goal in mind: to grow their charitable registration practice without increasing costs for clients and without overburdening staff.
Mill Law chose Change after seeing how the platform could streamline the most time intensive parts of the renewal process. The ability to upload a Form 990 and automatically pull data into state filings was a major differentiator. The Chrome extension provided a faster and more accurate way to complete filings online. For the first time, the firm had a consistent process that reduced manual steps and protected against human error.
The Change dashboard gave the firm one centralized place for client questionnaires, prior filings, deadline tracking, and documents. Paralegals could complete filings independently due to the platform’s ease of use. Change also created a single workflow for every client regardless of the number of states involved, which helped Mill Law deliver consistent results at scale.
With Change, Mill Law is now positioned to grow its charitable registration practice and offer competitive flat fee pricing to nonprofit organizations. The efficiency gains allow the firm to maintain a lower rate that aligns with its mission of serving organizations that create meaningful social impact.
