Frequently Asked Questions

Does Change work for all 50 states?

There are only 38 states (including Washington, D.C.) that have fundraising registration requirements for nonprofits, so that is where we’ve focused our efforts.

Of those 38 states, Change supports e-forms for 29 states and physical filings for 9 states. Each state has their own method of filing renewals, so we’ve built a platform that accommodates these differences.

How does Change collect the nonprofits’ information needed for filings?

Change takes a tech-first approach to collecting information needed in order to complete charitable registrations and renewals.

Sometimes, needed information for state filings can be gleaned from existing documents – like Form 990s, audits, and commercial agreements.

Change provides a Digital Document Center to which charities can upload these documents. The Document Center acts as a centralized dashboard to manage this information and assists legal professional when filling out the state forms.

Change also provides a questionnaire that consolidates all questions across all necessary jurisdictions (38 states). This lets legal professionals send a single questionnaire to their charity client for more streamlined data retrieval.

And finally, using AI, Change parses data from previous Form 990s (that are uploaded to the Document Center) to accelerate the process. This jumpstarts your charitable renewals and lets legal professionals easily resolve questions whose answers stay consistent year over year, like EIN or mailing address.

Before finally submitting everything to the states, legal professionals are able to review the information in Change and share the final forms with their charity clients to double check that all submitted information is correct.

Once the client information is collected, where is the data stored?

Change is a cloud-based solution and is SOC 2 Type II certified. All client data is securely stored by Change. That way, your company or firm doesn’t need to worry about it!

My firm supports nonprofits and for-profit businesses alike. Does Change help with commercial co-venturer and professional fundraiser campaigns – or for charitable fundraising platforms?

Yes! Change provides streamlined processes for Commercial Co-Venturer and Professional Fundraiser campaigns – managing everything from donation solicitation (like round-ups at checkout or charitable sweepstakes campaigns) to easy reporting for year-end filings. This lets legal firms and nonprofit consulting companies rely on a single platform (Change) for multiple aspects of their services.

We also support charitable fundraising platforms in achieving their required registration in California.

How long does it take to complete one charitable renewal with Change?

Time-to-submit is paramount to us, and definitely depends on the quality of information that your charity client provides.

Assuming that it’s of fabulous quality, it shouldn’t take more than one business day to submit state charity renewals in 38 states!

You’re able to achieve this thanks to our custom browser extension that autofills information on state websites, as well as our AI-powered workflows that accelerate the process by preparing jurisdiction-specific filings, completing repetitive data entry, and identifying issues that require review. Ultimately, your team remains in control of final approval and submission.

How much does this cost?

Thanks for reading this far on the page!

We like to meet customers where they are, so pricing depends on the number of charity clients your firm has, among other things. We go into some detail about pricing here.

If you have any questions, please schedule time with us.

How is AI used in state charity renewal filings?

Change uses AI to handle repetitive steps throughout the renewal process. Using approved client data and documents, the AI agents prepare state-specific filings, complete data entry, identify missing or inconsistent information, and flag items that require review. Your team maintains visibility and control throughout the process, including final review and approval.
